Things to see and do in Middleham and surrounding areas
Middleham Castle - The childhood and favourite home of Richard III, Middleham Castle was a fortress of the mighty Neville family, Earls of Westmoreland and of Warwick. Around the massive 12thcentury central keep, they progressively constructed three ranges of luxurious chambers and lodgings, turning the castle into a fortified palace by the mid-15th century. The Wensleydale Railway- Take a trip on the lovingly restored railway between Leeming Bar and Redmire via Bedale and Leyburn, passing through some of the most magical scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. The 17 mile trip takes approximately 50 minutes. Trains are normally formed of heritage diesel railcars from the 1960s.
